NCNA Council of Nurse Practitioners Wake Central Region

North Carolina APRNs please contact your state Senator to support Senate Bill 695, An Act to Modernize the Nursing Practice Act.

Posted over 10 years ago by Jean Davison

At NCNA, we know nurses are incredibly busy, so we try not to ask for your help until we really need it.

This is one of those times.

NCNA needs you to call or email your State Senator and ask him/her to support Senate Bill 695.

Here's why:

A pair of companion bills has been introduced at the North Carolina General Assembly with great potential for the nursing profession and patient care. NCNA volunteers, staff, and lobbyists have worked incredibly hard to get to this point – but we cannot hope to cross the finish line without the coordinated support of our amazing grassroots network.

The "Modernize Nursing Practice Act" would impact all levels of nursing, but includes a particularly important update to the ways that Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) are regulated. If signed into law, APRNs would no longer be subject to costly and unnecessary physician supervision requirements. It is an improvement that has been touted by healthcare experts across the country for a long time, with many states already moving to make these changes. Simply put, North Carolina is behind the times.

We understand that most nurses are not APRNs, and many of you have no desire to become an APRN. This legislation however, strengthens the position of ALL nurses and helps ensure that we continue to be a respected voice in the ongoing discussions of how best to approach healthcare in a rapidly changing environment. Click here to watch a video from some of your nursing colleagues about the importance of getting involved, because you don't need to take my word for it!

Getting any bill passed by the General Assembly is a tough job. While we have been successful in getting a solid team of legislators to support SB 695, it will most certainly meet opposition from others. Voicing your support directly to your elected State Senator could mean the difference between success or failure in the end.

NCNA is calling on all nurses and nursing advocates to take action now! Call or Email your State Senator and ask him/her to support Senate Bill 695.

Take Action! Thank you ahead of time for your help.

Sincerely,

Tina
