Nurse-Managed Health Centers and the President's Budget
Dear Colleagues,
We were all disappointed to learn yesterday that a multi-million dollar appropriation for nurse-managed care was cut from the President's 2011 budget, and there will be no new funding for nurse-managed health centers through the HRSA Bureau of Health Professions.
Between this new development and ongoing uncertainty regarding our place in the congressional health reform bills, we may find ourselves in the same position we've been in for years -- struggling to fulfill our missions with insufficient and unsustainable funding. We have been working hard during the past year to position nurse-managed health centers for increased federal funding and thanks to you we are closer than ever to accomplishing our goal.
Please Click Here to let the Obama administration know that you believe nurse-managed health centers are valuable and that this appropriation should be restored.
You may use this link to contact the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the White House Office of Health Care Reform, and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Tell them that nurse-managed health centers need sustainable federal funding NOW if they are to continue to exist in the future and serve millions of underserved patients.
Yours,
Kenneth P. Miller, Chair of the Board
Tine Hansen-Turton, Chief Executive Officer
PS -- If you have contacts in government in DC, now is the time to use them. Make some calls this week and tell them that the long-term survival of nurse-managed health centers is at stake.
